Wanderlust

Where do we belong?

Wanderlust is a musical and poetic search for coming home within ourselves. It questions the feeling of belonging and feeling at home in a more and more alienating world. Is our childhood the first home we know and do we always secretly continue longing for it? Wanderlust is about the past and the future. It tries to dissect the ‘now’ in between – where do we truly belong? It’s about the ‘Lust’ (the desire, the pleasure) to discover new places and encounters and the hope that we will, eventually, come home within ourselves and each other. I want to create (musical) worlds in which that is possible.

For this piece I write and produce own songs, which I am singing live, intertwined with poetry and movement. On this page, I will share the creative proces.

First draft at Explore The North 2023

I performed a first 15 minutes on a route within the festival. One audience member came towards me afterwards and said that, through the performance, they felt taken by their hand and comforted.

Instilling Space at Winternights 2023

Fashion designer Esra Copur and I collaborated for Winternights Maastricht. We let Esra’s designs (which were created around the theme of ‘taking up space’ of her performance Te Be To Exist) and my music (of Wanderlust), meet each other and let their dialogue tell a new story.

Residency at Schiermonnikoog

During a residency at Schiermonnikoog, I made the demo So Schön So Blau, an ode to all the blue I saw while I was on the island. How can I feel home in nature, dissolving into the environment, becoming blue?

First song Negative Space during TalentLAB

During a residency at TalentLAB Maastricht in April 2023, I pushed myself to write a song and perform it live. I built the soundscape by layering environmental sounds and harmonies of my own voice, creating an 8 minute piece that builds up to a dancing part.

see the sun in my head all alone
sonic voices calling planets home
and clouds rain colours into the sea
